💛
I get asked all the time in my DMs — “What helped you the most in recovery?” or “How have you kept the weight off long-term?” And honestly, it’s never just one thing. There are layers to this journey, and every one of them matters.
First up — get your head in the game.
No shame, no fluff — just the truth: your mindset is everything. Having support from a psychologist or counsellor during pre-op and post-op is one of the best things you can do for yourself. This isn’t just about the food or the scale — it’s about healing old habits, understanding triggers, and building something strong for your future. Having a mental health plan? That’s not a weakness — it’s a power move.
Next — not all advice is created equal.
I say this with love: just because someone else’s dietitian says something, doesn’t mean it’s for you. I need proper explanations. I need to understand why I’m being told something before I change anything. If it makes sense and fits with my body, my goals, and my reality — sure. But unless someone has my file open and is speaking directly to me, I’m not blindly following anyone else’s plan. You know your body. You get to ask questions. You get to expect clarity.
Now let’s talk about food smarts.
I’m not saying you have to be a nutritionist. But I am saying — learn enough to know what a good food life looks like. If we just eat smaller portions of the same food we used to eat pre-op, eventually those portions creep back up, and that’s where the regain can begin. You’ve got to evolve with your body. Learn the difference between what fuels you and what fills a craving. There’s room for both — just know what’s what.
And lastly — use what supports you.
I still take my vitamins daily. I still use a protein supplement every single day. These aren’t things I feel guilty about — they’re part of how I stay well. I need them. They support my body. That’s not a sign of failure — it’s a sign that I’m doing what works.
At the end of the day, this isn’t about doing it “perfectly.” It’s about doing it consciously. With love. With intention. And with a whole lot of self-compassion along the way.
You’ve got this 💛
And I’m always cheering you on.
