Discovering My Culinary Journey: From Surgery to Family Meals

Lately, I’ve been flooded with questions about my culinary choices and how I maintain a healthy lifestyle. You’ve asked me everything from “What kind of dinners do you eat?” to “Would you consider making videos showing how you prepare meals for your family?” I’m excited to dive into these topics and share a glimpse into my life.

A bit about me: I underwent lap band surgery 16 years ago, followed by gastric bypass a few years later. Since then, I’ve successfully maintained my weight within a three-kilo range for the last five years. My approach to food is all about balance and adaptability, especially as a mom of five, with four kids still at home, and being married for 29 years.

I grew up on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland and have called Geelong home for nearly 13 years. My passion for food was instilled in me from a young age. My nan, a baker’s daughter, was an exceptional cook, while my grandma had a knack for alternative cooking long before it was mainstream. My mum? She’s an amazing home cook, and I owe a lot of my culinary inspiration to these incredible women.

After being diagnosed with coeliac disease years before my weight loss surgeries, I became increasingly passionate about cooking. This journey has transformed my relationship with food, and I’ve spent years learning to adapt recipes to suit both my dietary needs and those of my family.

One resource that has been invaluable to me is the Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery book. I’ve turned to it for inspiration countless times, and as my husband prepares for his own bariatric surgery, I’m revisiting its pages with renewed interest. I’m thrilled to share one of my favorite recipes from this book with you.

In fact, I’m excited to announce that the wonderful team from Nutrition For Weight Loss Surgery, have reached out to collaborate! This means some exclusive deals will be coming your way members of Bariatric Support Australia on Facebook so if you aren’t a member of that community, I would love to invite you to join me there or in our recipe community on Facebook, which is called Bariatric Support Australia Recipes.
